Description of the Turbt Procedure

General turbt procedure anesthesia is used to perform a TURBT. The surgeon inserts a device called a “resectoscope” into the bladder. Then, the surgeon uses an electrified loop to remove the tumor. The surgeon uses turbt medical procedure, to remove the bladder tumor removal, and also cauterize the base. This procedure usually takes between 15-30 minutes, but it can take longer if there is a large tumor. To determine the stage of cancer, the fragments that were created during the resection can be drained from the scope.

After your Turbt Procedure

What to Expect after turbt surgery

  • For 1-2 weeks, you may feel a burning sensation when you urinate.
  • For several weeks, you may notice blood in your urine.
  • For several days, you may notice an increase in the frequency of voiding or a need to strain to empty your bladder.
  • If your surgeon has given you an order to instill chemotherapy (into the bladder), a follow-up appointment will be set for the next day.

 

What is Recovery from Turbt Procedure

Turbt procedure recovery. Your healthcare team will encourage your recovery and rehabilitation to include walking. You will likely be prescribed pain medication and antibiotics for your stay at the hospital as well as after you get home.
